Oven Roasted Bacon

Oven Roasted Bacon

It’s not breakfast if there isn’t bacon!

In the past, if I wanted bacon with breakfast, I got the pre-cooked kind and threw it in the microwave. I was truly missing out (and you are too if you’re still getting wimpy pieces of pre-cooked bacon).

As I began my journey into the world of cooking bacon, I quickly learned a few things:

  1. I still don’t like it microwaved. Even the best and thickest cut of bacon gets a rubbery, stale texture in the microwave.
  2. Cooking it on the stove seems to take forever.
  3. Bacon fat is messy and splatters everywhere.
  4. Cooking it on the stove requires constant attention and leaves you with a puddle of fat that you have to figure out what to do with.

That’s when I discovered oven roasted bacon. And the method that I’m going to share with you is super easy, and deals with all of the above issues.

Although this recipe has been jazzed up with some additional ingredients, you can feel comfortable leaving them all out and still having delicious bacon.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick cut bacon (thick cut is important)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp brown sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lay a single layer of paper towels on the baking sheet, and then lay parchment paper over the paper towels.

The paper towels soak up the grease as the bacon is cooking. This keeps the bacon from frying in its own fat, which keeps it from splattering everywhere in your oven. It also makes clean up a lot easier as all you have to do is throw the grease soaked paper towels in the trash and wash the pan.

The parchment paper keeps the bacon from sticking to the paper towels.

Lay each strip of bacon side-by-side on the cookie sheet. It’s okay if they are touching. Lightly sprinkle all ingredients evenly on each strip of bacon. I find it easiest to put each ingredient in the palm of my hand and then use the fingers of my other hand to grab exactly what I need for each strip of bacon.

Place the cookie sheet in the oven on the middle rack and bake until your preferred doneness. I prefer it a little crispier and that took about 20 minutes.

I love this method because it requires no flipping and no grease splatters! Just put it in the oven and forget about it.

Well, don’t completely forget about it. That would be bad. Really bad.
